Brown Algae

Brown algae are grown and cultivated in the coastal regions of the North Atlantic, from Northern Europe, the North Sea, and the Baltic Sea to the Canaries and Morocco. In North America, they grow in Canada, and the Caribbean; and they are also native to the coast of Brazil. Brown algae significantly helps fight premature skin aging and shield the skin from infrared rays and blue light present in sunlight or emitted by smartphones. Blue light is also emitted by digital screens such as smartphones, and just like UV radiation, these rays can cause oxidative stress, damage cells, and accelerate the natural aging process. Brown algae have lots of minerals and trace elements and offer powerful hydrating and soothing properties. Some brown algae can help reduce hyperpigmentation, improve the appearance of age spots, and brighten the skin. Brown algae are proven to support cellular energy production which increases the oxygen supply to the skin, providing a positive effect on cell renewal and thus on the overall appearance of the skin. The antioxidants in brown algae protect against the skin’s firming collagen degradation. Brown Algae, Laminaria digitata is a marine plant extract rich in nutrients and compounds that help to soothe irritated, reddened, and sun-damaged skin. It is also known as sea kelp and brown seaweed, Laminaria digitata contains skin-soothing beta-glucan, polyphenolic antioxidants known as phlorotannins (these help brown seaweed withstand UV exposure), and phloroglucinol, which is responsible for its skin-calming benefit. These and other antioxidants help improve the look and feel of the skin, making Laminaria digitata a great option used in anti-aging products.
